Safeguarding week 19th–25th June

Over the years we have hosted a few safeguarding engagement sessions in Kirklees for the public, where they could pick up information and awareness of different types of abuse that can take place.  We have always looked to invite partners to support at this event, they can bring expertise and have specific information for the public on certain types of issues concerning safeguarding.

We engaged with 25 people on the day and some of the requests came from professionals who work in the legal field.  KDACET were perfectly placed to answer and provide this information and invited then to further training sessions.  The Safeguarding Cards were popular, members of the public learned about the different types of abuse.   We also had requests for online safety and where to go if they were victim of this, so the leaflet produced by the libraries came in very handy.

Learning Disability week 19th-25th June

This year we wanted to go bigger than ever! And we did just that, with over 21 different partners collaborating including Yorkshire Childrens Centre, Batley sporting foundation, Endorphins, Mencap, REAL employment, Umbrella Yoga, Community Links, PCAN and many more.

On Tuesday 20th June we held a large event in Batley Market Square. We wanted to promote the different services across the locality that offer support to those with learning disabilities and their carers. On the day we engaged with over 50 members of the public! One person was referred for volunteering, Endorphins received 5 new referrals into their services, The free yoga tasters attracted new future members and 8 people were interested in signing up to the Brain in Hand app supported by community Links! With such a successful event to draw on, plans for next year already underway so watch this space!
