Our Community Connector, Shaf has been working with S2R, Dewsbury Library Hub and local volunteers to help the set up of a new walking group. They go for a walk every Friday at 11am – 12.30pm, starting at the library hub, then go along the greenway and back to the library hub for a cuppa after.

They get a really warm welcome when they go along and friendships have been made through the joy of walking and having a chat and a laugh along the way. Check out the brilliant video below created by S2R to give you an insight into what it’s like.

It couldn’t have happened without the people involved – namely: the local volunteers who love walking, Waheeda from S2R, staff at Dewsbury Library Hub and our Community Connector who all supported the sessions to get off the ground and introduce new people to the group.

They also go on trips a few times a year to explore outside Kirklees – so far they’ve been to Flamborough, Whitby and Beningbrough Hall. Thanks to Councillor Paul Moore by giving access to a mini bus!

A new walking group has also started on a Saturday at 10am at Dewsbury Library Hub.

If you’d like to give it a go, get in touch with Community Plus, or just turn up – anyone is welcome!
